Experience
One common problem in contemporary classrooms is the pace at which the material is presented. Often, teachers will present one method of solving a problem and then bring up the next problem without making sure the student understands. This can cause students to lose their confidence in the subject and be unable to continue with the material. My tutoring style solves this problem, because I like to let my students work on the problem in their own way and then fill in the missing conceptual gaps. I have always been a skilled tutor. During high school, I helped my classmates in math. In college, I taught chemistry to a student who was struggling. Most of my tutoring experience has been informal volunteer work for students around me that were having trouble. I am most experienced at teaching math and biology, as I am most interested in these subjects. In terms of education, I have a bachelor's degree in biology and mathematics from Hope College. I have also completed some coursework in genetics at Iowa State University. I have a very practical perspective when it comes to algebra and genetics because I think that they provide an organized and reasonable way of viewing the world. My hobbies include playing sports and watching movies.
